The Korean alphabet is a thing of beauty, simply designed and easy to read, but it can be daunting to beginners. Although one can learn the Korean alphabet by visiting Wikipedia or Googling, this book attempts to break the information into manageable chunks for easier learning and present it in ways that are easier to understand (unless you are a trained linguist). Unlike comprehensive textbooks, which aim to quickly pass you through the alphabet so that the “real” lessons can begin, this book is only focused on the Korean writing system. However, by carefully selecting examples and providing definitions, while familiarizing yourself with Korean writing, you should also happen to learn 200 words of Korean! This will give you a leg up for when you begin your proper Korean studies.
How to Use this Book
Take your time or move as quickly as possible. As there is no accompanying audio, try to find a Korean friend to model the pronunciations. Feel free to spend time reviewing the examples and drilling yourself (or a friend) for the meaning.
