Day 122-3: The Final Days

Obviously, I didn’t sleep very well. With a belly full of meat and beer, I must have woken up around 3am and wasn’t able to get back to sleep. I laid in bed listening to podcasts until it was an appropriate hour to go make toast and drink coffee. I was planning on being fairly lazy, but was seized by the inspiration to get some exercise. I finally committed to going over to the public swimming pool, which was a good 40 minute walk away. This is my first time swimming in at least months and though I’m not exactly out of shape, there are definitely some muscle groups that haven’t been getting their workout. I stopped at 1100 meters because I was already getting excited for lunch.

The swimming pool surprisingly didn’t have showers in the locker rooms, so apart from a quick rinse going into and out of the pool, I didn’t shower. I walked back to the hostel and went straight to the pizza place at the downstairs to go for their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. There was a fairly significant wait in between slices where I had to go to the counter and ask for each one individually, but I managed to back away 7 slices before I started feeling nauseous. I stumbled upstairs and took a long nap.

Feeling good after some exercise

It was a really nice day outside, and I should have gone to a park or the botanical gardens, but I really couldn’t be bothered. I watched some TV on my computer for a bit and started mixing it up on the language study, trying out Korean again to see how much I’ve forgotten.

I had a date with the same woman to get soup curry and visit a sento. So at the appointed hour, I headed over to Suage for soup curry. It was really good and we lucked out by beating the dinner rush. However, I was still so full from lunch, I barely managed to eat it all and felt quite uncomfortable afterwards. We briefly went into a comic shop to pick up the latest issue of some manga, and walked over to the sento, which happened to be located in the northeast corner of town, near the Sapporo Beer Museum.

I was feeling better by the time we got there, and we arranged to meet back up at 9pm. It was a pretty good sento, with indoor/outdoor baths, a sauna, a whirlpool, and a cold pool. The only thing I wanted that was lacking was a pool with strong massaging jets, but the price was alright. I was surprised by how crowded it was too.

Anyways, I was once again confronted with the long walk back to the hostel afterwards. C’est la vie. I stopped a couple of times for some drinks as I had money burning in my pocket. I should be grateful that I wasn’t picking up all the tabs.

The hostel was quiet as a grave when I got back around 10:30. I finished my drink and overcame the urge to go get more calories to manage my feelings.
